I recommend trying the Maize Genetics Database!
http://www.agron.missouri.edu/
Try using the Full Text link in the sidebar,
(or click here: http://www.agron.missouri.edu/query1.html)

I tried searching for <maize growth model>, and among the list of hits
(out of the first 100), several of the Reference links have titles
involving the subjects you are interested in, for example:

http://www.agron.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/sybgw_mdb/mdb3/Reference/120816
http://www.agron.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/sybgw_mdb/mdb3/Reference/177771
http://www.agron.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/sybgw_mdb/mdb3/Reference/126032
http://www.agron.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/sybgw_mdb/mdb3/Reference/126937
http://www.agron.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/sybgw_mdb/mdb3/Reference/63486
http://www.agron.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/sybgw_mdb/mdb3/Reference/147926

Try other search terms, and increase the Maximum Number of Items to
Return value.
Then, off to the library... Good Luck!
