Evolutionary-Developmental Genetics
Postdoctoral Associate
A postdoctoral position is available to work on the molecular and
developmental basis of the evolution of plant architecture in maize
and its ancestor, teosinte. The project involves an analysis of the
teosinte branched (tb1) gene [see Genetics 141, 333-346 (1995);
Nature 386, 485-488 (1997)]. The project has two components. The
first involves the analysis of a series of intragenic recombinants
between a maize and a teosinte allele of tb1 and the study of the tb1
genic region using BAC clones. The recombinant alleles will be used
to map the genic regions that confer the different phenotypes of
maize and teosinte. The second component will study the
developmental genetics of the maize and teosinte alleles of tb1 using
transformation of maize with chimeric maize-teosinte tb1 constructs,
tissue in situ hybridization, and other approaches. This project is
funded for three years. To apply, send a statement of research
interests, curriculum vitae, and the names, e-mail addresses and
phone numbers of three references to John Doebley, Genetics
Department, University of Wisconsin, Madison WI 53706
(jdoebley at facstaff.wisc.edu).

UW-Madison is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
