Corn Genetics Question

I am trying to develop a non-majors general biology lab exercise that
connects Mendalian genetics to an actual gene. My hope would be to
use corn seed color. Carolina Biological sells corn cobs that
students could count & see that the 3:1 ratio holds. I'd like to then
have them plant the seeds, grow the plants and do PCR to show that
the purple seeds which show one phenotype can have different
genotypes whereas the yellow are all the same genotype. I have found
the nucleotide sequence for the wildtype R1 gene but I don't know
which r1 allele Carolina sells. Does anybody out there know which
allele it is? Does anybody know of tested primers for the R1 & r1
genes? I would sure appreciate any help you could give me.

Thanks,
