Dear maize researching friends:
The recent question about converting bushels to metric has encouraged to
post a query that I am half-ashamed to do. I know that many are experts on
maize in mexico. I have reference in historical documents to a quantity of
17,500 cargas of maize produced by a municipality (Cuetzalan, Puebla) in
1935, and the cargas seemed to be defined as containing 24 almudes.
There is at the same time a reference to coffee production in kilograms,
so I would like to be able to convert cargas to kilograms so that coffee
and maize production levels could be meaningfully compared.
I am half-ashamed to do this because I know this stuff is look-upable, but
whatever papers I have that contained these conversions are not here with
me where I am teaching this month.
So for any help anyone can provide, I would owe a ton (or the equivalent
almudes) of gratitude.
