BIOINFORMATICIST (GENETICIST/MOLECULAR BIOLOGIST) The USDA,
Agricultural Research Service, Plant Genetics Research Unit in
Columbia, MO, seeks a Bioinformaticist, GS-11/12/13, salary range
$41,834 - $77,507 per annum (see Announcement Number ARS-XOW-0339 at

Objectives for this newly-funded project are to: i) develop, enhance,
and refine MaizeDB and associated software by using advanced concepts
of automation and information processing display, control, and
transfer; ii) accelerate genomic map construction and data analysis,
integrate genomic maps, develop map representations, and automate these
activities; iii) develop and apply software systems for genetic
analyses and representation of quantitative traits; and iv) develop
methods for and analyze and manipulate data associated with
functionality of maize genes. Correlate phenotypes and traits with
genes for defining the genetic and biochemical basis of agronomic
traits. Cooperative efforts are expected with researchers from the
University of Missouri and other ARS researchers. The successful
applicant may be considered for adjunct professorial appointment in an
appropriate Department at the University of Missouri.
Qualifications: Basic Requirements: Geneticist (Plants) - A degree in
genetics or one of the basic biological sciences or computer science
that included at least nine semester hours in genetics; Molecular
Biologist - Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural
resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to
the position. In addition to the basic education requirement,
applicants must have specialized experience, for GS-11: Master's or
equivalent graduate degree in a field of study directly related to the
position; OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least
the next lower grade level. For GS-12: A Ph.D. or equivalent
doctoral degree OR one year Specialized Experience equivalent to at
least a GS-11; for GS-13:, one year Specialized Experience equivalent
to at least a GS-12. Specialized experience at all levels is
experience having worked with and acquired a broad knowledge of the
principles, mechanisms, and techniques used in the study of genetics,
