Research Geneticist. The USDA, Agricultural Research
Service, Plant Genetics Research Unit in Columbia, MO, is
seeking a Research Geneticist, GS-12/13/14, salary range
$50,139 - $91,589 per annum (see URL:

Objectives for this newly-funded project include: i)
evaluate and characterize maize germplasm accessions in the
National Germplasm System, especially those for which there
are few data in GRIN and/or MaizeDB, for genes conditioning
adaptation, productivity, and host-plant resistance to major
pathogens and pests of maize; ii) employ up-to-date
genetic/genomic technology to detect allelic diversity in
Zea and to develop genetic markers closely associated with
agriculturally important traits; iii) together with
cooperators throughout the U.S., conduct one component of
the Germplasm Enhancement of Maize project, which is
genetically enhancing public maize germplasm by
incorporating alleles from unadapted germplasm for
productivity, quality, and resistance to biotic and abiotic
stresses; and iv) collaborate with ARS and university
personnel to conduct a database development and refinement
effort that ties the MaizeDB database more closely to other
maize germplasm databases. Cooperative research efforts are
expected with researchers from the University of Missouri
and other ARS locations. The successful applicant will be
considered for adjunct professor appointment in the Agronomy
Department at the University of Missouri. United States
citizenship is required. A degree in genetics or one of the
basic biological sciences that included at least nine
semester hours in genetics is the Basic Education
Requirement. For GS-12: after meeting the Basic Education
Requirement, a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR one
year Specialized Experience equivalent to at least a GS-11
is required. For GS-13 and GS-14: after meeting the Basic
Education Requirement, one year Specialized Experience
equivalent to at least next lower grade level is needed.
Specialized experience at all levels is experience having
worked with and acquired a broad knowledge of germplasm,
plant breeding, and molecular and quantitative genetics as
applied to value-added trait identification and enhancement,
and knowledge of computer databases to link information for
