Responsible for daily operations in the Plant Molecular Biology
Laboratory. Prepare sterile culture media, buffers, and molecular biology
reagents as well as maintain culture collections. Inventory and order lab
supplies; operate and maintain a wide variety of equipment and analytical
instrumentation. Plan and perform complex experiments involving Plant
Molecular Biology protocols. These include DNA, RNA, Protein extractions
and electrophoresis, Southern-, Northern- and Western- blotting, PCR, DNA
Cloning, and Sequencing and use of radioactive materials. Perform research
and assist in interpretation of results. Summarize and analyze data using
computer programs including EXCEL, Clustal, and DNA sequencing and
analyses. Assist in planning and supervising of field, greenhouse, and
growth chamber experiments. Serve as resource person and train as well as
supervise undergraduate and graduate students and other personnel using
Plant Molecular biology lab facilities. Coordinate use of equipment by
researchers and resolve issues pertaining to instrument use. Assist in the
preparation of technical reports, grant proposals and manuscripts for
submission to refereed journals. Requires Bachelor`s degree or equivalent,
plus one year of work-related experience. This position is funded for one
year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
