POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN MOLECULAR EVOLUTION AND MAP-BASED GENE ISOLATION
IN PLANTS

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Jeff
Bennetzen at Purdue University. =A0The first position involves the study of
sequence changes in transposable elements, regulatory genes, disease
resistance genes, and housekeeping genes in various plant species, including
maize, rice, Arabidopsis, sorghum, wheat and barley. =A0The Bennetzen
laboratory has generated many megabases of DNA sequence information for
orthologous regions of several genomes, and now needs application of
appropriate analytical tools to extract additional information from these
sequences and related information from other labs. =A0Experience in molecula=
r
evolution and good writing skills are a requirement of this position, which
will also involve some hands-on molecular biology. =A0The second position
involves the isolation of two disease resistance genes that we have mapped
in sorghum, one associated with resistance to a fungal toxin and the other
associated with resistance to the parasitic weed called striga.
Tightly-linked markers are available for each of these loci, but more
markers are needed. =A0Experience with DNA marker-based genetic mapping is
required for this second position, and expertise in the use of BAC libraries
would also be a plus. =A0Each of these positions is funded for a minimum of
two years, and salaries will be commensurate with experience. =A0If
interested, please contact Jeff Bennetzen by email
(maize at bilbo.bio.purdue.edu), FAX (765-496-1496) or regular mail (Dept.
Biol. Sci., Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN =A047907-1392). =A0Purdue
University is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
