Postdoctoral Research Associate
Department of Plant and Microbial Biology
University of California, Berkeley CA U.S.A.

	A postdoctoral position is available immediately to participate in
a collaborative project between the University of California and the
USDA-ARS in Aberdeen ID.  The research will be focused on the utilization
in barley of the Ds system for the delivery of genes (Koprek et al., 2000,
2001) to assess strategies for the control of the fusarium head blight.
Transgenic plants with several constructs containing Ds inverted repeats
with genes encoding potential resistance factors and the Ac transposase
genes will be generated, crossed, characterized at the molecular level and
assessed for disease resistance.  The successful candidate will have
skills relating to the creation and analysis of vectors, the
transformation of monocot species, and the biochemical and molecular
analysis of transgenic tissue and.  This project is expected to last three
