Associate Biologist Position

Position Purpose:
The Research Associate will be a member of a team responsible for
understanding and improving maize resistance against ear mold and stalk rot
pathogens. The Research Associate will conduct laboratory, greenhouse, and
genetic nursery experiments aimed at identifying and characterizing
quantitative trait loci associated with resistance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Contribute to the design and be responsible for the execution of lab,
greenhouse and field experiments. Collect data, keep accurate records,
summarize, and present data. Order supplies, coordinate maintenance of
equipment, maintain order in working areas, and enforce safety protocols.
Educational Qualifications Desired:
M.S. degree or equivalent in Molecular Biology/Genetics or related field or
a B. S. degree plus at least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
Competencies and Experience Desired:
The job requires a working knowledge of molecular biology, sterile, and
general biology techniques, as well as willingness to learn new techniques
as the job demands. A background in plant genetics or plant pathology will
be an advantage. Applicants should have strong organizational skills, and a
demonstrated ability to carry out simultaneous projects to timely and
successful completion. Excellence in record keeping, written and oral
communications, and interpersonal skills are essential. Proficiency in
common and specialized computer programs is also required.
