Life Science Research Assistant (BS or MS level) to join the EST and
genomic sequencing team at Stanford University where we use MegaBACE1000
capillary sequencing for maize gene discovery (consult the EST and RescueMu
sections of http://zmdb.iastate.edu details). Technical duties include
colony selection, bacterial growth, DNA template prep, sequencing
reactions, and data analysis to maintain a high level of productivity in
DNA sequencing. Join our team of 4 at the Stanford Genome Center to learn
diverse techniques in genomics and new technologies; on-site bioinformatics
training is also available. The person filling this position will also be
responsible for sending and receiving materials from collaborators and for
interactions with the wider maize genetics community. Occasional weekend
work may be required, and there will be the option to attend meetings and
training sessions at collaborating sites in California, Arizona, Iowa, and
Illinois. Candidates must be familiar with MAC and PC and be able to work
independently with minimal supervision after training is completed. The
ability to "trouble shoot" technical problems is a key asset. Job was
posted at Stanford on June 11, 2001, and will remain open until a suitable
candidate is identified.
