I have a full-time permanent Research Associate position currently posted on

This person would be primarily involved in molecular/biochemical 
research in maize.  Candidates should have B.S. degree with 2-4 yrs 
experience or M.S. degree with molecular/protein experience.  Details

Location:
Johnston, Iowa

Position Purpose:
Participate in molecular- and biochemical-related research to 
identify and evaluate genes that enhance yield stability of maize 
plants grown under abiotic stress conditions.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Successful candidate will help conduct research studies to identify 
key regulatory genes associated with sugar transport and metabolism 
in developing ears. Specific duties and responsibilities: DNA/RNA 
isolation; Southern, northern, PCR, RT-PCR assays; protein 
isolation/purification and western blot analysis; enzyme activity and 
sugar metabolite assays; and DNA cloning. Successful candidate will 
also be involved in data acquisition and analysis; maintaining 
collection of bacterial clones; corn tissue sampling; ordering and 
maintaining lab equipment and supplies. Successful candidate will be 
expected to interact closely with other researchers in Ag 
Traits/Yield Stability and Analytical Biochemistry Departments and 
will be expected to work 40 hours a week.

Educational Qualifications Desired:
Minimum: B.S. degree in Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a 
related field. Preferred: B.S. with 2-4 years additional lab 
experience or M.S. degree.

Competencies and Experience Desired:
Candidates must demonstrate proficiencies in biochemical/molecular 
techniques and have excellent analytical skills. Accurate record 
keeping, detailed data organizational skills, and computer skills are 
required. An ability to organize and manage several tasks at one 
time. Computer skills in Excel and Word. Strong commitment to 
accuracy and detailed observations along with self-motivation, 
initiative, effective communication with other scientists, and a 
liking for laboratory research.
