I assume this refers to color in the plumule of the seed
(including the coleoptile). See the following.

Note that two inbred lines, 38-11 and Ky27, have been found
to have that characteristic. Both of these are dominant C1,
whereas most elite inbred lines are c1 or C1-I. Note that
R1-nj alleles confer plumule color (and scutellum color) and
color in the aleurone tissue on the crown of the endosperm.
However, 38-11 and Ky27 have no aleurone color, so they must
carry another factor, probably a particular allele at the r1
locus, that confers plumule color.
Hope this provides information. Crosses with a c1 tester,
and with an r1 tester, followed by progeny tests and studies
of the segregation, should test how well this applies in
your case.
