Oliver Evans Nelson Jr of the University of Wisconsin passed away
November 6, 2001. He died comfortably in a hospital setting, after suffering
from various health problems. A memorial service will be held in Madison
Wisconsin within the next few weeks. Details are presently not available.
Born in August of 1920, Oliver served on the Faculty at Purdue
University and moved to the University of Wisconsin in 1969. Best known for
his work on maize endosperm composition, particularly protein and starch
content, Oliver was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in the early
70s.
He will be deeply missed.
