Dear Cooperators,

We are currently hoping to fill several positions (recently 
advertised in Science) here at Cornell and are particularly 
interested in folks working in grasses or legumes for a position in 
the plant breeding department. We are looking to hire at the 
assistant professor level, but will also consider junior faculty

POSITION:	Assistant Professor of Plant Breeding (tenure track)
Research (70%); teaching (30%)

STARTING DATE: July 1, 2002 or as negotiated

LOCATION: 	Department of Plant Breeding
New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853-1901

Develop a strong externally funded basic research program with 
potential long-term applications to the improvement of crop species. 
Cornell University has active groups working in both legume 
genetics/breeding and grass (maize, wheat, rice) genetics/breeding. 
Preference will be given to candidates interested in forming 
interactive networks with other researchers working in either grasses 
or legumes, taking advantage of comparative genomics in these 
species.  Teach a course in plant genetics/genomics and supervise 
graduate students.  Contribute to specialized modules, seminars, and 
team-taught courses and to graduate training in plant breeding.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in plant genetics, plant breeding, plant 
molecular biology, or related discipline and ability to direct a 
major research program.  Postdoctoral and/or other relevant 
experience desirable.
