DUTIES: Incumbent works in laboratory, field, and greenhouse 
settings. The incumbent performs the following: Assists scientist(s) 
in one or more phases of the research process in support of a 
research program on developing new and improved research forage 
cultivars for livestock and natural resource conservation; incumbent 
participates in the planning and conducting of experiments concerned 
with biological and genetic studies; operates and maintains 
specialized equipment and automated systems; takes standard field 
measurements; assists in plant pollination and breeding; prepares 
solutions and reagents; prepares sterile growth media; collects 
plant, leaf, and root samples from field and greenhouse; 
microscopically examines plant tissues; prepares and evaluates 
samples for DNA analysis; conducts chromosome counts; performs 
computer assisted karyotyping; maintains records; prepares, 
maintains, and disposes of chemicals and pesticides; selects 
appropriate methods and procedures; uses computer software to 
tabulate, summarize, and statistically analyze data; and interprets 
and summarizes findings through charts, graphs, and reports. 
Occasionally drives government car, pick-up truck, etc.
