Requests:
Aga Khan Rural Support Programme is non-income generating organiztion
worrking with rural community to raise their living standard for last
twenty years. Recently the organization has started a participatory
programme for maize and wheat breeding. The programme area is located
at the extreme north of Pakistan and borders with China, Indian
Khashmir and Afghanistan. The area is a junction of Worlds highest
mountainous ranges, Himalay, Hidokush and Karakuram. The growing
season is very short and per capita land holdings are very low. There
is no any agriculture research center for both applied and basic
research. The maize cultivars which released for planes of Pakistan,
are introduce to the area through selection. Because of particular
agroecological conditins (high altitude, dry temperate climate and
short growing season) the cultivars released for planes could not
perform well in area. That,s why the AKRSP took initiatives to
develop improved maize and wheat cultivars with community.

Items:
- some literature about synthetic cultivar developments, composite
crosses and other hyberdiaztion and section methods in maize breeding.
- germplasm of maize with early maturity and high yielding potendtial
