Postdoctoral Position in Maize Physiology
Department of Plant Agriculture
University of Guelph

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to study the
physiological basis of cold tolerance during the grain-filling period
in maize. The objectives of the research are to identify
physiological mechanisms that to contribute cold tolerance during the
grain-filling period in maize, expanding on recent results reported
by us (Lee et al., 2002, Crop Sci. 42: 1919; Ying et al. 2002, Crop
Sci. 42: 1164; Ying et al. 2000, Field Crops Res. 75: 95). This
position is part of a multi-disciplinary project that seeks to use
gas-exchange protocols in whole-plant physiology, contemporary
techniques in plant molecular biology, and breeding, to improve our
understanding of the genetic bases of abiotic stress tolerance during
the grain-filling period in maize. The project involves genetic
mapping, QTL identification, and gene expression analyses, although
the primary responsibility of the incumbent will be gas-exchange
studies during the grain-filling period in maize. For information on
research carried out in the maize physiology laboratory consult
http://www.plant.uoguelph.ca/research/homepages/ttollena/.

Candidates should be highly motivated individuals with a PhD in crop
physiology and with experience in leaf gas-exchange measurements. An
appreciation of molecular biology will be an asset. Salary is
commensurate with qualifications. To apply, please send a CV, a brief
statement of research experience and research interests, and the
names of three references (including address, phone, and email) to:
