Research Associate Postion at Pioneer Hi-Bred International
A Research Associate position is available starting October, 2002, in the
Dept of Agronomic Traits within Crop Genetics Research at Pioneer Hi-Bred
International, Inc. The position involves the conduct of molecular,
biochemical and physiological studies aimed at the identification and
evaluation of genes involved in stress tolerance. It also involves the
development and standardization of precise screening methods for stress
tolerance. Duties and responsibilities of this position include (1)
discovery, isolation and cloning of candidate genes for gene transfer, (2)
biochemical, physiological and molecular characterization of select maize
inbreds, as well as transgenic or mutant maize and Arabidopsis plants, (3)
detailed, accurate and timely recording of data, (4) providing written
summaries of results in a timely manner to the Research Scientist and
collaborating researchers, (5) maintenance of accurate records for sample
tracking and DNA stock within the group, and (6) close interaction with
other researchers in Agronomic Traits, Analytical Biochemistry and Trait
Genetics Departments.
We are seeking candidates with B.S. degree and four years related experience
or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience. Candidates may
have M.S. degree but it is not required. A good background in plant
molecular biology or stress physiology is required. Candidates are also
required to be familiar with routine molecular techniques including primer
design, gene cloning, Southern, northern and western blotting, PCR/rtPCR
assays. Experience in protein interaction studies is desirable but not
required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary in
order to communicate the results of this work broadly across research
organization.
The position is located at Pioneer Hi-Bred's state-of-the art research
facility at Johnston, Iowa, and provides interaction with several
internationally acclaimed scientists addressing various aspects of plant
biology. This location also allows access to scientists and research
facilities at the Iowa State University, which is less than an hour's drive
away.
