Postdoctoral Position

Michael D. McMullen mcmullenm at missouri.edu
Mon Dec 1 15:40:27 EST 2003

The United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research
Service, Plant Genetics Research Unit, is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Geneticist). Recent Ph.D. is required.
Salary is commensurate with experience ($47,111 - $73,403 per annum)
plus benefits. There are some citizenship restrictions. By contrasting
the DNA sequence diversity remaining in genes in inbred lines of maize
(improved maize) to the diversity present in accessions of the wild
relative teosinte and exotic maize landraces, we have identified genes
with "signatures of selection" (Vigouroux et al. 2003. Proc. Natl. Acad.
Sci. USA 99 9650-9655). The incumbent will use genetic and transgenic
approaches to test the hypothesis that manipulation of the expression of
these domestication and improvement genes will alter key agronomic
traits. Knowledge of molecular biology and genetics is required.
Knowledge in quantitative and evolutionary genetics and plant
biochemistry is desirable. Refer to http:/www.ars.usda.gov for the full text
announcement (RA-04-028H) and for complete application instructions.
Send application materials and references to Dr. Michael D. McMullen,
USDA/ARS, 302 Curtis Hall, University of Missouri, Columbia MO 65211 or
e-mail (mcmullenm at missouri.edu). USDA/ARS is an equal opportunity
provider and employer.
