The Maize Mapping Project is pleased to announce the release of FPC and
iMap results from manual editing in Phase II of the project. This
release shows contigs have dropped from 3488 in June to 2585 contigs.
See WebFPC at http://genome.arizona.edu/fpc/maize/ for the FPC contig
viewer and WebChrom, the chromosome viewer, or for access to the FPC
program and downloads.
See iMap at http://www.maizemap.org/iMapDB/iMap.html for the integrated
map presentation of side-by-side genetic and physical maps.
Contigs by size, chromosome assignment, and other data extracted from
FPC are available in a text file at
http://www.maizemap.org/contigs_size.htm. Five contigs are larger than
8Mb, including one of 11.5Mb on chromosome 7, and 658 contigs larger
than 1Mb encompass 1400Mb. All contigs encompass 1982Mb, 86% of the
nominal size of the B73 genome, without discounting regions inaccessible
to BAC production or assembly. Of these, 1114Mb are anchored to the
genetic map.
