Dear Maize Genetics Community:

The Aluru, Ashlock and Schnable labs are pleased to announce several
new features at the redesigned MAGI web site

1) MAGIs can now be displayed using the gbrowse tool (Stein et al.,
2002). Using this graphical display you can find out which GSSs
comprise each MAGI. In addition, MAGIs are annotated via
high-stringency alignments to B73 3' ESTs and ab-initio gene
predictions as well as BlastX results. (more EST alignments will
appear shortly)

2) It is now possible to request that specific MAGIs be genetically mapped.

3) A partial genome assembly (SAMIs, or Sorghum Assembled genoMic
Islands) is available for your use. It was generated using ~500,000
methylation-filtered sorghum GSSs recently released by Orion
Genomics. This PRELIMINARY build (version 1.0) contains ~74,000 SAMIs
with an average size of 1.3 kb, each of which contains on average ~5
