Postdoctoral position in plant genetics/genomics/cell biology

A postdoctoral position is available to study chromosome pairing and
recombination during meiosis in plants. The project will focus on
identifying and characterizing genes involved in meiotic chromosome
homology recognition in maize and Arabidopsis. The successful
candidate will use classical genetic, genomic, and proteomic
approaches coupled with state-of-the-art 3-dimensional deconvolution
microscopy to identify proteins that interact with the product of the
maize phs1 gene and its Arabidopsis homolog. phs1 is a newly
identified gene essential for proper chromosome pairing in meiosis and
for coordination of chromosome pairing, synapsis, and recombination,
whose disruption causes chromosomes to pair without regard to
homology. Specifics of the project will be tailored to the interests

The preferred start date is December 2004/January 2005. The position

Requirements: Ph.D. in genetics, cell biology, plant biology or a
related field. Experience in molecular biology is essential.
