To Our Maize Genetics Colleagues,

We are growing materials that you may wish to come and screen this
summer. At Illinois, material to screen includes EMS mutagenized and
Mu transposon tagged MTM material, as well as a collection of
genetically diverse inbred lines. At Purdue, EMS mutagenized
material in a different genetic background is growing.

All maize scientists in public and private sectors are invited to
participate in screening for mutants and natural variants.

The materials at Illinois were planted on May 2, 3 and 4 and can be
screened anytime now and throughout the summer. Seedling mutant
notes have been taken.

EMS 2784 total rows 326 mutants observed.

Mutants by pedigree, These are M2 families

A632 239 families 55 mutants

A632xOh43 414 families 80 mutants

Oh43xA632 264 families 56 mutants

Mo17xA632 178 families 33 mutants

A619xB73 415 families 102 mutants

Some of the EMS materials will begin to flower by the end of June,
but a majority of them will not be flowering for another 10-14 days.

MTM material 1881 families 203 mutants

The MTM material appears that it will not be flowering for another 10-14 days.

Maize Diversity Lines 300 families

Three of these lines have started shedding and different lines will
shed pollen at various points over the entire summer, with the
majority by about July 15 or so.

We have a dedicated computer on the farm for computer-based entry of
all notes. This can be accomplished either locally or remotely.

The EMS material at Purdue was planted May 4, May 11, May 23, May 31.

In total there are 1400 W22 M2 families out and 2500 W22 M1 if people
want to look for dominants.

At Illinois, we have rented a large townhouse for the month, close to
the field, that visitors from the Inflorescence project will be
using. If not full at the time, overnight visitors are welcome to use
this. Purdue is only 90-100 miles from U. Illinois, they are within
easy driving distance of each other.

Regards,
