Job Description
Under the supervision of PI and project senior personnel, the
individual will be responsible for conducting wet lab experiments,
data entry, analysis and quality control, and assistance with routine
lab management and administrative activities to support extramural
and intramural funded projects. Duties include carrying out molecular
biology protocols (such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA
extraction, microarray and sequencing) related to assigned project
tasks; conducting experiments on automated high throughput
instruments such as Temperature Gradient Multi-Channel Capillary
Electrophoresis (TGCE) system (which will require weekend and evening
hours); assisting with the operation and maintenance scientific
instruments (such as the TGCE, microarray printer and microdissection
microscopes); conduct scoring and analysis of maize genetic mapping
data and microarray data; assisting in training and supervision of
lab assistants; and assisting in the coordination of daily lab
operations such as dish washing and inventory.
Required Qualifications
A bachelors degree in Biology or related field and experience with
research lab experience which should include basic molecular biology
techniques (such as PCR, electrophoresis, genomic and plasmid DNA
extraction) and familiarity with high throughput lab tools such as
multi-channel pipettes.
Preferred Qualifications
A masters degree in Biology or related fields. Previous experience
with TGCE or microarray technology. Experience with high throughput
instruments such as Tetrad thermocycler and Hydra liquid dispenser.
Experience with bioinformatics tools such as BLAST and GenBank.
Familiarity with Mac OS and MS Office package.
