A Research Assistant position is available immediately in a plant
genetics laboratory in the Department of Biology at Penn State,
University Park, PA. The research will involve identification of genes
controlling auxin mediated development in maize using both genetic and
genomic approaches. This is an NSF funded position, renewal for up to
five years contingent upon continued funding. Requirements: Minimum
qualifications include a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in plant
biology,
plant breeding, genetics, molecular biology or a related area. Experience in
maize genetics
is advantageous but not required. Candidates must have excellent
communication and
critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently and as
part of a team. Duties include: Responsibility for coordinating and
conducting
planting, pollination and harvesting of maize plants; coordinating
activities across three labs/institutions; supervision of four
undergraduate students; collecting, extracting and genotyping plant
material for molecular mapping studies and follow up molecular and
