Position Description
The Division of Plant Sciences and the Interdisciplinary Plant Group, University of Missouri, Columbia, invite applications for a tenure‐track position in Plant Stress Biology. The assistant/associate/full professor position, 9 or 12 month, is 80% research and 20% teaching. We seek outstanding candidates addressing research challenges in the areas of biotic stress from disease, insect herbivory, and other sources; and/or abiotic stress from drought or other extreme environmental conditions. Plant Stress Biology is a major theme within the general area of “Plants for Changing Environments”, an overall emphasis area in plant biology at the University of Missouri. The academic home of this position is in the Division of Plant Sciences. The successful applicant will be part of the campus-wide collaborative Interdisciplinary Plant Group.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the missions of the Division of Plant Sciences (http://plantsci.missouri.edu/) and the Food for the 21st Century’s Interdisciplinary Plant Group (http://ipg.missouri.edu<http://ipg.missouri.edu/>). We seek candidates using modern methods to address the grand challenges associated with biotic and/or abiotic stresses. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an active, extramurally funded research program in their area of research specialization. Research areas of particular interest to the Division of Plant Sciences include plant-microbe or insect interactions, drought physiology/genetics, plant biochemistry/physiology/metabolomics, especially as these may relate to root and rhizosphere biology, and ecological/crop modeling. However, candidates addressing other research specialties are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to areas of need in the teaching and service missions of the Division. Teaching responsibilities will include the development of a new graduate level course and/or contributions to existing courses within the plant stress biology graduate program curriculum.
Qualifications
The applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Crop Science, Agronomy, Ecology, Plant Pathology, Nematology, Entomology, Microbiology, or related field. Effective oral and written communications skills are required.
