A post-doctoral position is available starting immediately in the Institute of Plant Breeding, Genetics and Genomics/Dept. of Plant Biology at the University of Georgia to conduct genomic analyses in switchgrass and other grasses. Applicants that have both excellent bioinformatic skills (in particular the analysis of next-generation sequence data) and experimental skills are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applications will join a dynamic team working on the genetics and genomics of switchgrass, wheat and millets. The position is available for 2 years, with a possible extension of an additional year contingent upon funding.
The post-doctoral fellow will study linkage disequilibrium in lowland (tetraploid) switchgrass and its relative foxtail millet, and conduct association mapping between candidate genes involved in recalcitrance and biomass characteristics. He/she is also expected to apply state-of-the art genomic approaches to enhance the genetic resources available in switchgrass and foxtail millet, and must have the necessary bioinformatic skills to analyze next-generation sequence data sets. The post-doc will be located in the Devos Laboratory (http://kdbioinfo.cropsoil.uga.edu/devoslab/) and will be part of the BioEnergy Science Center (http://www.ornl.gov/~5os/bioEnergy/index.html) that comprises laboratories in 10 Universities and Companies in the SouthEast.
A PhD in genetics or a related field is required for both positions. Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing, must be available for an interview.
