JOB TITLE: Quantitative / Statistical Geneticist - Research and Development

DATE: August 2012

LOCATION: Lebanon, IN



RESPONSIBILITIES:

o             Design and implementation of strategies to develop genetic material and to apply marker-assisted selection (MAS). This includes coordinating genomic selection and marker-assisted backcrossing logistics in collaboration with the molecular-marker laboratory, conversion department, and breeding stations.
o             Development of statistical and biotechnological tools to optimize breeding procedures.
o             Design, analysis, and interpretation of breeding experiments and marker-trait association studies.
o             Development of scripts - preferably in SAS and/or R - and tools to perform phenotypic, genetic, and marker-trait association analyses.
o             Implementation of company-own scripts and software packages for routine MAS.
o             Support for users of AgReliant Genetics' databases and software packages for phenotypic and genetic data analyses as well as MAS.
o             Oral and written communication of results and interpretation of experiments and studies.
o             Occasional travel to Europe and South America may be required.


QUALIFICATIONS

o             Ph.D. in plant breeding or statistics or related discipline.
o             Strong bases in biostatistics, quantitative genetics, and selection theory.
o             Experience with the design, analysis, and interpretation of breeding experiments and marker-trait association studies, marker-based genome analysis, marker-assisted selection and introgression is highly desired.
o             Familiarity with standard general-purpose statistical software and databases.
o             Experience with procedural programming - preferably in SAS and/or R - to develop scripts for phenotypic, genetic, and marker-trait association analyses.
o             Understanding of principles of plant propagation, fertilization, and integrated pest management is advantageous.
o             Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with laboratory scientists and breeders.
