Dear All,
We are glad to announce the
Synbreed Ph.D. Training Course 2013: 'Breeding Methodology and Selection
Theory'
which will take place on September 16th/17th 2013 at the University of
Hohenheim, Germany.
The course provides an introduction to breeding methodology and
selection theory for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in animal
and plant breeding. It will be conducted by Piter Bijma of Wageningen
University and Research, one of the leading authorities in this field.
The course is intended as an introduction to the subject and also
covers a number of more advanced and specialized approaches to selection
theory as applied in animal breeding.
Programme Overview:
- Basic single and 2 locus population and quantitative genetics
- Mutation drift and selection
- A unified framework for response to selection & Price’ Theorem
- Molecular relatedness, base generations, IBD/IBS, variance in
relatedness and effective number of loci
And, if time permits:
- Drift, coalescent theory, neutral theory
- Optimal long-term gene-based selection
