Job Description:

The primary focus of the Gore research program in the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics is the genetic dissection of metabolic seed traits related to nutritional quality of crops. The Gore lab also contributes to the development and application of field-based high-throughput phenotyping tools for plant breeding and genetics research. The position requires moderately complex database and informatics support for the Gore research program. Manage the collection, analysis, and storage of highly complex phenotypic, genotypic, weather, geospatial, and crop management data through the design, development, and utilization of a computer database system. Design and manage the process for tracking, keeping, and updating records and inventories for plant samples and germplasm with a laboratory information management system (LIMS). In addition, Ensure data integrity and reliability, rapid access to data, including providing the tabulation and graphing of highly complex data. Also, interface with computational units on Cornell campus to develop and maintain a cyberinfrastructure for the Gore lab that consists of functionality for data storage and high-performance computing. Develop and maintain web interfaces for project/lab databases and project/lab websites and interact with outside collaborators and research groups to learn and implement new database structures and help develop community database standards.
Requirements:

Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or closely related discipline with 3 but less than 5 years of experience or equivalent. Knowledge and experience with database development and management, including SQL expertise and relational database design. Web development experience including CSS, HTML, JavaScript. Experience with MySQL and at least one of the following scripting languages: Perl, Python, PHP.

Preferred Qualifications: M.S. in Computer Science or closely related discipline with 4 years of experience. Knowledge and experience with database development and management in Unix and Windows environments, including SQL expertise and relational database design. Web development experience including CSS, HTML, JavaScript. Experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL and all of the following scripting languages: Perl, Python, PHP. Extensive experience with C/C++ programming for design and development of software. Development of data acquisition applications for mobile devices.
