[Maize] Derek Styles, rest in peace

I received the following sad news from Jerry Kermicle:

The sad news below was received from Derek Styles's wife. Please 
distribute it as appropriate to the maize community. It is a distinct 
pleasure to have known Derek, first as a fellow student of Alex 
Brink's and then as a committed r-locus investigator. Derek had a 
unique gift for synthesis, taking disparate bits of information and 
putting them together in lively prose
