Pathway database called Plant Reactome
(http://plantreactome.gramene.org) has an immediate opening for a
full-time biocurator to annotate plant metabolic, signaling and
regulatory pathways. The successful candidate will be a recent PhD
(within 0-5 years) in one or more areas of biochemistry, molecular
biology, gene regulation, plant biology, epigenetics, bioinformatics,
gene expression and related fields including the use of NGS technology.
The curator will be responsible for (1) curation of the plant pathway
and networks, associated small molecules (compounds) and gene products
and their function by exploring the scientific literature and developing
computationally driven methods; (2) contributing to the development of
standard operation procedures on project specific and community-wide
plant pathway annotation methods, (3) development and improvement of the
database content and user interfaces for the online portal and (4)
participating in communicating with researchers at meetings and
workshops or via electronic media to improve the quality of database
content, train database user groups involving researchers and students,
and address user feedback queries.

The successful candidate will work with a team of curators, software
engineers, and database developers. The candidates must demonstrate
ability for independent, critical thinking, excellent communication and
teamwork skills and meticulous work ethic. Candidates must have
excellent publication record from their prior work and show strong
interest and knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, gene
regulation and bioinformatics. Knowledge of bioinformatics, software
programming, management and analysis of large genomics datasets
including those generated by NGS for genome and transcriptome
sequencing, wet lab experience in a plant biology lab, biochemistry and
plant anatomy are a plus. Familiarity with spreadsheets, literature
databases, basic UNIX commands, and commonly-used biological research
tools is desired. A working knowledge of Perl and/or SQL will be
considered an asset but is not required. Excellent English, written and
