Dear Colleagues;
It is with great sorrow that we are relaying the sad news regarding
the passing of our friend and colleague, Suzy Cocciolone. Suzy lost
her nearly four year long fight with breast cancer on February 10,
2016. She passed in her house in Garner NC, surrounded by her loving
children, Austin, Addisen, Loren and Dayna, and husband Tim.
For more than a decade Suzy worked at BASF, NC, as leader of trait
development and data governance teams. Before joining BASF, Suzy
held postdoctoral positions at Iowa State University, Pioneer Hi-Bred
and the University of Florida. Suzy earned her PhD at University of
Missouri-Columbia, and completed her undergraduate studies
at Michigan Tech University. Throughout her career Suzy was an
energetic, careful, and insightful investigator. Suzy made
significant contributions to understanding epigenetic regulation at
the maize p1 and pl1 loci and authored 11 research publications.
Suzy was a helpful labmate, a wonderful friend, and strong supporter
to many. She will remain always young and smiling in the memories of
those who were privileged to know her.
