Assistant Professor - Sweet Corn Breeding and Genetics
This is a tenure-accruing faculty position with 80% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 20% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences), available in the Horticultural Sciences Dept., Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida located at the Gainesville, Florida campus. Major duties are to develop a nationally and internationally recognized sweet corn breeding and genetics program. The successful candidate will use modern techniques in breeding and genetics and is expected to support the research program through extramural funding and royalties. The individual will actively interact with corn breeding efforts at the Everglades Research and Education Center in Belle Glade Florida, at the Plant Science Research and Education Center at Citra, Florida as well as other locations throughout the state. Both research and teaching collaborations are expected with colleagues in the Horticultural Sciences Department and with faculty from closely allied departments and centers in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences that support the Florida green industries. The Florida environment allows for excellent disease and insect screens as well as the production of inbred lines suitable for subtropical production. The research program is expected to focus on developing innovative breeding strategies. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, quantitative genetics and genomic selection, integrating tropical and diverse germplasm, improving doubled haploid development, automated phenotyping systems, gene editing and transgenic modification. Teaching responsibilities will be undergraduate and graduate teaching with responsibility in plant breeding and genetics. A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Plant Breeding, Genetics, or a closely related discipline is required. Experience in a plant breeding program and postdoctoral experience are desirable.

Assistant Professor - Biochemical Genetics
This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position at the rank of Assistant Professor with 70% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) and 30% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida, Gainesville. The incumbent will develop and conduct a nationally and internationally recognized research program in plant biochemical genetics that addresses fundamental problems relevant to the biology of fruits and vegetables. The incumbent is expected to attract federal, internal and industry funding to support these activities, and to report the results of this research in high quality scientific journals as well as national and international professional meetings. The incumbent will be expected to collaborate with existing IFAS programs to introduce and evaluate candidate genetic traits of potential benefit to producers and consumers. Teaching duties include mentoring and advising B.S., M.S. and PhD students, and lecturing in an area of mutual agreement. A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Genetics or a closely related discipline is required.
