What about the human filarial worms with pocketwatches? i.e., that different
species (W. bancrofti, B. malayi, etc) have periodicities in the blood
of their human host that remarkably match that of their respective
arthropodan vector's biting patterns.
As far as wacky "adaptations" go, get a good look at the penellid
(a.k.a laerneid) copepods of fishes.
