And barnacles live on the hulls of ships -- are ship hulls hosts?
and lichens live on rocks and tree trunks and the sides of
buildings, etc -- are these inanimate objects hosts?
Mussels live on piers, air plants draw sustenance from, well, the
air .... all these organisms that subsist on inanimate, nonliving
things ... are they parasites?
