Great post about botflies. Back in the late 60s or early 70s, one of
my students went to Costa Rica and came back with a bot. Of course we
were hoping it was leishmaniasis and did a lot of squeezing and
staining of smears, but nothing much appeared on the slides.
Eventually, the thing revealed itself and was removed. We
were kind of disappointed, but the student was relieved.
