Postdoctoral position in immunology & parasitology
We are interested in studying the mayor hallmarks of nematode parasitic
infections such as eosinophilia and enhanced IgE antibody
production and their role in the pathological processes / development of
protective immunity. We have recently characterized and cloned several
parasites allergens from the filarial nematode Brugia malayi, the causative
agent of lymphatic filariasis that have been shown to induce IgE antibodies
in patients with Tropical Pulmonary Eosinophilia. One of these recombinant
allergens is the homologue of inhalant allergens. These allergens have been
cloned, overexpressed and isolated by our laboratory.
We plan to study the role of these recombinant filarial allergens
in the pathology of pulmonary eosinophilia in the mouse model.
Applicants should have a background in murine immunology:
characterization of lymphoide cell populations by FACS analysis,
immunocytochemistry, murine cytokine production by ELISA, RT-PCR,
antibody subclasses analysis or with experience in pathology of the lung will
be given priority.
The position is available immediatly for two years. The salary
ranges from 65,600 to 69,000 Swiss francs (about 56,000 - 58,000 US$)
depending on age and qualification.
