Toxocara eggs can remain viable in the soil for a long period of time,
for several months and possibly years with optimal environmental
conditions (moderate avg annual temperature and good humidity).
The eggs withstand freezing temperatures in temperate climates (.2 C
under the snow) but are suscepible to dessication in arid climates.
Additional information on prevention of Toxocara VLM is available on the
WWW at: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/publications/brochures/hookworm.htm
You may also find the review of experimental work on Ascaris
suumm and Toxocara egg survival in Levine's "Nematode Parasites of Domestic
Animals and Man" (pages 271, 281) helpful. The book is out of print, but
perhaps you can getit via interlibrary loan. Hope this is helpful. Good luck.
