Tom -- E. steidae is a coccidian parasite in the liver cells of rabbits
(no association with fowl). The parasite is very pathogenic to rabbits,
but it won't infect human due to its extreme species specificity. The
oocyst contains 4 sporocysts, each sporocyst has 2 sporozoites. The size
(35x20 um) is close to a human coccidium: Isospora (35x15 um), whose has
oocyst contains only 2 sporocysts, but each sporocyst has 4 sporozoites.
There are several books on coccidia (i.e., Coccidia of animals and man,
Biology of coccidia, Coccidia and coccidiosis, and so on), which can be
found in many libraries by search title key word of coccidia. Any vet text
book of parasitology may also give you some idea on the parasite, too, I
bet.
