Actually it is a coccidian parasite (protozoan) of rabbits. It causes hepatic
disease and is one of the most common protozoan infections of
rabbits. Hepatic changes involve hepatomegaly and multi-focal discrete white
nodules of the liver tissue. The nodules are actually
proliferation/hyperplasia of the bile duct epithelium and distension of the
bile ducts. Stress seems to be involved in expression of clinical disease.
