Question on treating those protozoan parasites

Okay, so many protozoan parasites (ie, Leishmania) are treated
with antimonial compounds.  I know these are metalloid compounds,
but does anyone know any more details?  How do they work?
How specific are they to the parastic organism?  Thanks.
