hi all. i have inherited a lab manual to revise that instructs students
to "wash hands thoroughly after handling Ascaris specimens. Eggs have
been known to survive preservation."
This seems a rather questionable statement to me, since formaldehyde is
still in most preservatives, although in smaller amounts. I have my
students wear gloves as protection against the chemicals, rather than
any possible eggs.
do any of you know of an actual case of infection after handling
dead, preserved, female Ascaris lumbricoides?
