Parasitologist
The Natural History Museum's Department of Zoology is currently looking to
recruit a Parasitologist involving both collection management and research
in the new Wolfson Wellcome Biomedical Laboratories.
Key areas of responsibility include maintaining and documenting snail and
schistosome collections, introducing new methods of parasite culture and
cryopreservation, and providing technical/research support for the
Biomedical Parasitology Division. You will also carry out research on the
molecular biology of schistosomes and snails. There are likely to be travel
opportunities both within the UK and abroad.
The successful candidate will have a BSc in Life Sciences and a PhD, in an
appropriate area of research, is desirable. Experience of experimental
research in life sciences is essential, knowledge of molecular biological
techniques or experience in parasitology would be an advantage. There must
be a potential for producing research publications and generating external
income.
Self motivation and innovation are desirable characteristics as well as the
ability to work in a team. The candidate must have proven people management
skills and be well organised and flexible.
Salary between : £21,647 - £28,000
