The third internet conference on salivarian trypanosomes and
trypanosomatids (TICSTT) is currently being organized. The meeting will
take place from the 2nd to the 18th of October 2000. The scope of this
conference has been extended this year to include all pathogenic
kinetoplastids. Compared with meetings such as the Wood's Hole molecular
parasitology, Caxambu or the Gordon conferences, TICSTT is the
new kid on the block. The flexibility of our internet format, however,
gives us the potential to be the biggest and most informative trypanosome
conference of the year; since it allows every trypanosome researcher with
access to the internet to participate - regardless of their current time
commitments or budget. In six sessions, TICSTT will cover all aspects of
trypanosome research including biology and ultrastructure, biochemistry
and drug development, immunology and pathology, molecular biology,
epidemiology and vectors.
Apart from universal access, the internet format also has the advantage of
being able to link directly to remote sites and to play movies and run
programs. Discussion boards will allow interaction between presenters and
attendees and allows work presented to come under the critical scrutiny of
the entire research community.
The work presented will initially be held online at Fiocruz but selected
full submissions of high quality and abstracts of posters will be published
in due course in a Special issue of the International Journal for
Parasitology (April 2001).
For invited speakers, the deadline for presentations in "html format" is
September 1st. The deadline for presentations in other formats is August
15th.
Poster abstracts will be published in the International Journal for
Parasitology (April 2000). We ask that primary authors restrict themselves
to two papers.
