Folks,
A bright student in my Zoology class asked if blood is checked for Toxoplasma. She thought it should be critical especially if the blood is given to an immunodeficient person.
I checked the sixth edition of Schmidt and Roberts and they suggest that whole blood could be a source of infection. I have never heard of blood being checked for it - but then I don't keep up on what the Red Cross checks for. Does anyone know if Toxoplasma is routinely screened for and if there are any known cases of human transmission from whole blood.
Unless the responder objects I would like to share your responses with my Zoology class.
