EPIDEMIOLOGY OF
INFECTIOUS DISEASES
MATHEMATICAL MODELS, INTERVENTION STRATEGIES AND RISK ASSESSMENT.
15 - 26 September 2003 at Imperial College London
With the increasing importance of epidemiological assessment I would like to
bring to your attention to the forthcoming professional development course
entitled Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases: Mathematical Models,
Intervention Strategies and Risk Assessment.
This two-week course will introduce the basic concepts and methods for
modelling infectious disease spread and control. In addition it will
present new developments in the form of case- studies and there will be
opportunities for participants to explore these techniques for themselves
during closely supervised projects.
The course is aimed at public health professionals, policy makers, national
and international health organisations, medical and veterinary researchers,
or other researchers from related academic or industrial fields who wish to
acquire up-to-date knowledge in this rapidly developing area. It is taught
by the research team headed by Professor Roy Anderson FRS that has run
successful short courses in this field for over 10 years, and will focus on
the most up-to-date developments in the area.
The course includes lectures and projects (applicants can suggest their own
projects). Bookable time will be set aside for tutorials with staff members.
The course will be held in a dedicated facility in the department.
The course size is kept small and thus early booking is advised. Should you
require a brochure or additional information please refer to the course web
site, http://www.imperial.ac.uk/cpd/epidemiology.htm or do not hesitate to
contact Peter Chard (p.chard at imperial.ac.uk, Tel: +44 (0)20 7594 6884).
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mervyn Jones
