I used DCPIP as an electron donor to P700 in PSI; I reduced it by adding
ascorbate to the reaction medium. However, DCPIP can function as electron
acceptor (without asc present) in PSII; however, the pH of the reaction
medium may be critical: at high pH (>7) DCPIP is blue coloured (the oxidized
form) and doesn't accept electrons from PSII - at low pH (5.5), its colour is
pink or reddish and DCPIP is supposed to work as electron acceptor.
I can't guarantee that any of the information above is true. I just have
heard about it and don't know any literature.
