Dear Photosynthesis colleague:
I have been asked to provide a list of those who have received
Nobel Prizes in Photosynthesis or whose work touched directly on
photosynthesis. What is needed is the name, the area, the year awarded
and any source (reference). Perhaps, there is a book or pamphlet
where this can be found easily.I have some names on the top of my
head, but not the year.In some cases, I am not even sure if they
got it or it is just my wrong recollection. My list is:
Rudolph Marcus(1993 or 1992?) Electron transfer theory
Hartmut Michel,Johann Deisenhofer,R.Huber (1985??) RC's
Peter Mitchell(70's) Chemiosmotic theory
Melvin Calvin (late 50's) Carbon Fixation
George Porter(40's??) Flash Photolysis
The list gets a bit vague:
Otto Warburg;Woodward (Chl synthesis);Fischer(???Chl synthesis);
Did Wilstatter get one?;Of course James Franck got it ,and came to
photosynthesis only afterwards: we do teach about the Franck-
Condon principle.By the way, did Theodor Foerster ever got one
for energy transfer theory???
Anyhow, if you have further information, or if you can correct
any of the above, or add some information ,please send me a
note with a copy to Dr.Alex Angerhofer whose E-mail address is:
